21-Year-Old Parolee Nabbed In Albany Shooting That Killed Man, Injured 2 Others, Police Say

Police have arrested a suspect in an overnight shooting in the region that killed a man and injured two others, including a 13-year-old boy.

The Albany incident happened at around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, in the city’s West Hill neighborhood, near Second and Quail streets.

Officers found a 46-year-old woman who was shot in the leg and a 13-year-old boy suffering from a graze bullet wound to his arm. Both victims were taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A short time later, hospital employees contacted police saying a 30-year-old man had come to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his back. The man was later pronounced dead.

Investigators said all three victims were together when they were shot.

On Tuesday, June 11, Albany Police said 21-year-old Paul Smith, of Troy, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.

At the time of the killing, Smith was on parole stemming from a prior conviction, according to police. No other details were given.

He was arraigned in Albany city Criminal Court and taken to the Albany County jail without bail.

Police did not speculate on a possible motive and have not yet identified the victim.
